Deuteronomy 6:4-5

So I am reading in Deuteronomy now and I just read one of my favorite passages… although it seems as if I am doing that all of the time. The passage is Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

This made me think of when Jesus quoted this passage. He was asked what the greatest commandment was and this passage was His reply. I really like how He quotes verse 4 first. I never heard it as much growing up… but there is just something wonderful there.

So I guess I am writing again cause I just got back from another short trip and since I just said that I think alot about life when I go on trips I thought I should say something… to myself.¬†

I went to Chicago for the Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. I think that is rather incredible… especially in today’s culture… it is unheard of. So I thought about it and I thought… that is what I want by God’s grace. That’s it on that.

We also hung out with some of the coolest people ever… Devin, Andrea, and Nadia. Go check Devin’s music:¬†www.myspace.com/asherlevmusic. It rules… especially “Motor City Mud” and “The Great Revival”. We went to church with them, ate chicago deep dish pizza, went and got gelato (of course), talked about pineapple, custard, and glazed vietnamese food?… and then we squozed each other goodbye and headed home.

The message at church was awesome and just what I needed to hear… especially when moving: God’s timing is everything. The passage spoken on was Psalm 37:1-7 and the verse that I liked the best was “Rest In the LORD, and wait patiently for Him…” It is so good to rest in Him… but it is certainly not easy. I do not believe in luck at all, only divine appointment. I absolutely love Proverbs 16:33 “The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the LORD.”

Do you believe in luck?

Thoughts while away

“Still round the corner there may wait, A new road or a secret gate.” – Tolkien

Whenever I go away from home, wherever home is, I think about life… more than usual. I am always thinking about life and living, but when I go away there is only so much to do and I am out of my “routine”.¬†

I just got back from Nashville yesterday and this trip was no different in that regard… it was just extra draining. I am not completely sure why… but I think I have an idea…. but that’s not why I am writing. What is on my mind is the general things that I was thinking about life and living.

There is a certain quote from the movie Gladiator that I really like because it is true… it is something to the effect “What we do in life echoes in eternity”… I was thinking over that the whole trip for some reason.¬†

Most people realize this to some degree, but they do not take it as far as they should. For example ALL of the things you do today will affect your tomorrow and your tomorrow the day after and so on and so forth. The people I talk to today, the people I meet, the food that I eat, the clothes that I wear, the time that I spend, the money I spend… all of it will affect me forever.¬†

The Bible says in Hebrews 4:13 “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”¬†There are many things that will be accounted for that are really worthless… and then I think there will be things we didn’t think much of that God places great value on.

My dad always quotes “Only one life will soon be past, only what is done for Christ will last”.¬†

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” – 1 Cor. 10:31. I like that verse even more because it mentions food… which even food (well if you can call what many people eat food) that you eat today will affect your life long term… just go look at what aspartame, msg, or alcohol does to you.

After thinking these thoughts then I think… well what/who wills you to will what you will… but that is a whole ‘nother blog… but I am thinking of Philippians 2:12-13.¬†

Go on… go read it.

Fior Di Frutta… mmmmmhm

This is the best jelly that I have ever had. Especially the apricot and the wild blueberry. Why am I writing about this…. cause it is that good. Of course it is from Italy… of course. Go buy some and see for yourself, unless of course you have absolutely no palate and they all taste the same to you… in that case disregard this recommendation and go on about your ignorant ways. And at this very moment I tell my brother to take advantage of the food stores that he has access to… at least for the rest of this week… including some Fior Di Frutta jelly imported by Rigoni Di Asiago.
